ISLAMABAD: Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian arrived in Islamabad on Tuesday on a two-day official visit at the invitation of Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, accompanied by Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi and a high-level delegation.
President Pezeshkian and Foreign Minister Araghchi arrived in separate aircraft, with the Iranian president flying directly from Tehran while Araghchi arrived from Oman following recent diplomatic engagements.
Upon arrival at Nur Khan Airbase, President Pezeshkian was warmly received by President Asif Ali Zardari, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar, Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi, PPP Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari, and Iran’s Ambassador to Pakistan Reza Amiri Moghaddam. The visiting president was accorded a 21-gun salute, while Pakistan Air Force fighter jets performed a ceremonial flypast in his honour.
Earlier, Foreign Minister Araghchi was welcomed by Deputy Prime Minister Ishaq Dar, Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi, and Bilawal Bhutto Zardari upon his arrival in Islamabad.
During the visit, President Pezeshkian is scheduled to meet President Zardari and hold delegation-level talks with Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif. He will also receive calls from Senate Chairman Yousuf Raza Gilani, National Assembly Speaker Ayaz Sadiq, and Deputy Prime Minister Ishaq Dar.
According to Pakistan’s Foreign Office, the visit will provide an opportunity for both countries to review the full spectrum of bilateral relations and explore enhanced cooperation in trade, energy, border security, regional connectivity, and people-to-people exchanges. The two sides are also expected to discuss recent diplomatic developments and regional and international issues of mutual interest.
The visit reflects the shared commitment of Pakistan and Iran to further strengthen their longstanding historical, cultural, and economic ties while promoting peace, stability, and sustainable development in the region.
